Make the goods consistent, say what is true, keep the records.
Consistent goods
A customer is not buying a stack of wood; they are buying material that can go straight into their line. A millimetre off in thickness or two points too much moisture turns into scrap and rework at their press or finishing line. We would rather spend the time at the grading table than let doubtful pieces into the bundle.
Straight answers
What we can and cannot do is said at quotation time. A thickness we cannot hold, a lead time we cannot meet, the grade that a given price actually buys — we say it up front instead of taking the order and explaining later. What you see in the sample is what ships.
Records kept
Every batch has a cutting record and a moisture record, and end sealing, stacking and pre-loading measurement are photographed. If a delivery is disputed, both sides look at the same record. That settles things faster, and more fairly, than arguing from memory.
About people
Most jobs here are hand skills: reading colour, judging defects, setting machines, stacking. They only get accurate with time, so we want people to stay — steady hours, experienced hands willing to teach, and real work for newcomers. The mill is a long-term business and so are the people in it.
